Yes, this is one of those posts - one of the one’s where I apologize profusely for not posting, but I also want to update you on something going on.
As you all know, I’m in the midst of a struggle trying to figure out what to do with my career. I can’t honestly say I hate architecture, but I have no passion for it. Over the past six months since I started this blog, this feeling of disquietude has increased, probably because the job so clearly contrasts with this blog, which I really love doing.
As you probably know, I’ve been doing a lot of blogging at work. On Friday my bosses asked me to stop doing internet things. While I would love to tell the bosses to shove it and walk, that’s a reaction that doesn’t match in severity the request. Also, I have my obligations to the household and Jerry to think about.
This meeting on Friday was a long time in coming, and I knew it. Over the weekend I spent some time moping, and I am still unsettled as to what to do. Because of this, the forces of nature have made it clear to me that I need to shit or get off the pot. It’s put up or shut up time. It’s time to throw all the clichés I can think of in a bag and shake vigorously. In other words, I can’t just talk about hating my job anymore. Thoughtful action is required.
What that means for you, my faithful readers, is I may be posting less as I try to get my shit together.

Here is a blog entry idea: Give practical lessons to people on how to play on the internet at work without actually getting on the internet.
I do this by using the power of Microsoft Word. No one suspects anything as long as you are typing into a Word document.
Write your blog posts in Word, save them to memory sticks, and post them when you get home. Or open up an Outlook email and write them there. If someone walks by, you are obviously not on the Internet - you are being productive in Outlook.
Sometime when we’re face-to-face, I can talk to you about it from a management perspective. What has likely happened is that someone has complained about your internet usage. I’m assuming you’re keeping everything else on the up and up, meeting your deadlines, producing quality work, etc. while AT THE SAME TIME being master of all things blogerifical.
Most people can’t understand that way of living, get jealous, and, since they don’t have blogs of their own to complain about you on, complain about you in the office. It is a sad state of affairs, office-life. But one rich with stories and blogworthy material.

They’re some heavy weights you have to move around your house, take your time and make the best decision for you and those you love.
We’ll all still be here, hanging out and drinking grape soda.

Before I get into my car to go home I run the days crappy events through my head one last time (everything I should have done and said) and then once I get into the car I don’t think about it anymore. Those thoughts try to creep back in, but I don’t let them. You got to let it go. Keep your chin up Alex.

Robert - Thanks. As a guy doing a lot of CAD work, there’s very little excuse for me to be doing something in Word. People usually can tell when I’m writing something personal. As far as getting my shit did - I never missed deadlines, but I put a burden on teammates.
Crump, Magnus, and Lynch - Thanks. I love all the lovin’.
Winrit - Thanks. I’ll keep that in mind the next time I want to bash heads. Like I said, your package really helped yesterday.
