Please do buy this book in both forms. I read the book first, and was amused. Then I got the audiobook for free and listened to it on a long family car ride. I laughed. Hard. So hard that I had to pause it and go back cause I missed so much stuff. What's up with the hour or so long reciting of Hobo names? It's unexpected and yet somehow awesome. I cannot recommend it any higher.

Hey, Alex, thanks for the recommendation. I've been listening to this over the past few days and it's very funny. And I love the contributions by Jonathan Coulton. The state songs are hilarious. And those fake crab place ads...I was dying with laughter. If you haven't already, you should seek out the episodes of This American Life that feature John Hodgman. There's a list on his Wikipedia page. And jonathancoulton.com has tons of free mp3s of his music. He did a project called Thing a Week and you can download all the songs as a podcast here:

I'll definately look up the This American Life eps. While doing some small research to find out the name of the guitar player, I saw a picture of John with a person with a guitar and a coon-skin cap. I assumed it was Jonathan Coultan, but the picture didn't have a caption. His and John Hodgman's banter makes the audio recording. In fact, after reading back what I transcribed, I didn't find it half as funny as hearing it.

Also, thank you for naming the guitar player. I never came up with the answer in my research, and I had already published this post by the time his name was mentioned again in my audiobook.

I wonder if his name is really Jonathan Coultan.
